About Game of Thrones
Game of Thrones is a fantasy drama television series based on the A Song of Ice and Fire novels by George R.R. Martin. It aired on HBO from 2011 to 2019 and quickly became a global cultural phenomenon.
The story is set in the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos, featuring a medieval world filled with:Noble families vying for power; Dragons and dark magic;A looming supernatural threat from the North (White Walkers)
The Project
Warner Bros. wanted the iconic and instantly recognizable imagery of the Game of Thrones universe captured in the finish of the sweater. They included that in their design. Printing intricate designs is a lot easier than knitting them but Warner Bros. wanted Roody to create them so they could have a fully custom knitted sweater. Knitted designs last much longer than printed ones — no cracking or fading and-quality knitting machines can capture surprising levels of detail — great for sigils and text. Knitted sweaters also give a premium look: A knitted design offers a more luxurious, high-end feel, in line with HBO’s premium brand.
The design itself was based on traditional Nordic or “ugly Christmas” sweater patterns, but with a Game of Thrones twist such as dragons replacing reindeer, swords and shields in place of snowflakes and the Iron Throne or White Walkers worked into centerpieces. The sweater’s color scheme reflected the associated House:
Stark: Grey, black, and white (cold, northern tones).
