About Google
Google is a multinational technology company best known for its search engine, which is the most widely used in the world. Founded in 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin while they were PhD students at Stanford University, Google has since expanded into a wide range of products and services, including:
Search – The Google Search engine processes billions of queries daily.
Android – Google develops Android, the world’s most popular mobile operating system.
YouTube – Acquired in 2006, YouTube is now the leading platform for video content.
Google Ads – A dominant force in digital advertising, providing a major portion of the company’s revenue.
Gmail, Google Maps, Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Photos – Widely used productivity and cloud-based services.
Google is a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc., a holding company formed in 2015 to separate Google's core business from its more experimental ventures.
The Project
Google wanted to create Christmas sweaters for their employees as holiday gifts. Employees love receiving Christmas sweaters as gifts as they are fully custom, exclusive and limited edition. Custom Christmas sweaters can be a surprisingly smart choice for employee gifts — here’s why employers tend to consider them:
🎁 1. They’re Fun and Festive Holiday sweaters tap into seasonal joy, making them a playful, morale-boosting gift. They show that the company embraces celebration and lightheartedness.
👕 2. They Foster Team Identity A custom design (with inside jokes, logos, or department references) builds a sense of belonging and community. Employees love repping something unique to their team or company.
📸 3. They’re Great for Engagement Sweaters spark social sharing — from team selfies to holiday Zooms — and make for perfect moments during holiday parties or internal campaigns like “Ugly Sweater Day.”
🧶 4. They’re Practical (and Cozy!) Unlike generic swag, a well-designed sweater is actually wearable — employees can use it at home, during virtual meetings, or on casual days at the office.
🎨 5. They Allow for Custom Creativity Employers can tailor designs to reflect company culture, values, or even achievements that year — turning the sweater into a conversation piece and a keepsake.
💬 6. They Spark Conversations Beyond Work Non-work gifts like sweaters humanize the company. Employees are more likely to talk about (and appreciate) a sweater than a pen or a gift card.
✅ Bonus: They’re Size-Inclusive and Gender-Neutral With options for various fits and sizes, they’re an inclusive gift that can accommodate everyone on the team.
The Making of the Sweater
Google wanted the sweater to be a fully custom knitted one. They wanted the design to go everywhere on the sweater-front, back and sleeves. As Google have specific brand colors, the yarn was custom made so that it matched their brand colors. All of the icons were fully knitted in. The collars, cuffs and hem were blue which was different to the main body of the sweater (white) and it made the sweater really stand out.

The Result
The custom sweaters were distributed to Google employees around the world as part of their annual holiday gifting program. Everyone loved the sweaters and they ordered another batch the following year using a different design.
